Amos Woodward's father, Park Woodward, of Stonington, Connecticut, was during the War of the Revolution, Purchasing Agent for the American Army and a contractor for bridge building. He married his third cousin, Zilpah Park. His father, Thomas Woodward, married at Preston, Connecticut, Dorothy, daughter of Robert and Mary (Rose) Park, granddaughter of Thomas, and great-grand-daughter of Sir Robert Park. Sir Robert Park (born in Preston, England, in 1580), the first of the family in America, settled on land owned by him on the Mystic River, Connecticut. He was a friend of Governor John Winthrop, and held many positions of trust in the colonies. Thomas Woodward was fourth in direct descent from Nathaniel Woodward, whose name appears in the colonial records of Boston, Massachusetts, in 1635. He was a descendant of John le Wodeward, ranger of Arden forest early in the fifteenth century, whose grandson, John Wodeward of Solihull, married Petronella de Clinton of Baddesley, of a distinguished and noble family.
