PAUL POND, son of Samuel and Hannah (Johnson) Pond, was born 17 May 1760 at
Wrentham MA (Wrentham VR:268) and was baptized 15 Jun 1760. He died 11 Mar
1843 at Richmond OH. Paul married, first, 9 Jan 1784, Medway MA, CALLEY
DEXTER, daughter of John Dexter. He married, second, 7 Sep 1786 at Medway
MA, MEHETABEL JONES, daughter of Samuel Jones, who died 29 May 1841 at
Richmond OH. Paul is said to have been present at the battle of Bunker
Hill, although barely sixteen years of age. He served as a drafted man for
two months in Samuel Fisher’s company that marched to Rhode Island, May 3,
1777, having previously served in Rhode Island for a period of twenty days
in the same company of Col. Ephraim Wheelock, from April 21, 1777. He was
afterwards a private with Capt. Asa Fairbanks, Col. Benjamin Hawes, in Rhode
Island, from Sep. 30 to Oct. 31, 1777. He served as a “six months man” from
Franklin and marched July 3, 1780. (Pond:37,66). He moved from
Massachusetts to Sudbury VT and from there to New Hampshire, and finally to
Ohio. He is listed in the 1791 and 1800 U.S. Censuses, Sudbury VT.
