'John Williams was born in 1664. He was the son of Samuel and Theoda (Park) Williams and a gr andson of Robert and Elizabeth (Stalham) Williams who came to America from Norwich, England o n the 'Rose' and arrived to settle in Roxbury, Massachusetts on June 20, 1637. John William s was the minister in Deerfield and wrote a book entitled 'The Redeemed Captive' which tell s about his captivitity experience when the French and Indians in 1705 raided the town of Dee rfield and took some of the people back to Canada. John's wife was killed shortly after the j ourney began. Later, when he was released in a prisoner exchange he remarried and had additio nal children.'
